Birir feels different because it rewards attention. Instead of moving quickly from one attraction to another, you follow village paths, notice how multi-tiered homes meet the slope, and learn why a ceremonial hall or dancing place cannot be treated like an ordinary sightseeing stop.
The valley's known places include Guru, Aspar, Ghaz Guru and Biyal. The traditional walking route begins near Guru, passes through oak woodland and villages where Kalash and now-Muslim Kalash communities live side by side, and ends near another old Jeshtak-Han at Biyal with views toward the snow-covered Acharkandur peak and a glacier to the west.
Birir is part of the Kalasha Valley Cultural Landscape, added to Pakistan's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in March 2026 together with Bumburet and Rumbur. Tentative status recognizes a living cultural landscape not full inscription.

The four major Kalash festivals follow the seasonal and farming calendar. Public events can be included when locally confirmed, but ceremonies are community observances rather than shows arranged for visitors.
